RAM® Tab-Tite™ Universal Spring Loaded Holder for 8" Tablets with Case

Overview

The RAM® Tab-Tite™ spring-loaded, quick release holder offers a secure fit with easy access to the mounted tablet. The spring-loaded design makes it easy to insert and remove your tablet, while keeping it secure in a variety of applications. The custom end cups are designed to optimize the functionality of your tablet, enabling access to all buttons, ports, and tablet functions. Included is a set of four nuts and bolts to attach the holder to any RAM® components that contain the universal AMPS hole pattern. For off road environments and use in open cockpit applications, we recommended the use of a tether to assist in securing your device. The RAM® Tab-Tite™ holder is compatible with any tablet within the listed dimensions.

Great with the TRIPLTEK 7 Pro and TRIPLTEK 8 Pro
This cradle is the most secure way to hold a TRIPLTEK 7 Pro or TRIPLTEK 8 Pro.  However, the top and bottom parts of the cradle are slightly wider than the TRIPLTEK units at 5 7/8" (149 mm) (compared to the 5.20" (132 mm) width of the TRIPLTEK 8 Pro) - so you need to leave a little extra width if you want to mount this cradle to your instrument panel.  When installed, the TRIPLTEK 8 Pro top and bottom ends fit partially through the cradle's end holders and sit exactly even with the ends of the cradle - so the overall installed length is the 8.66 inch (220 mm) length of the TRIPLTEK 8 Pro.  Although the spring-loaded slide action makes it very easy to install the TRIPLTEK with one hand, the slide needs to extend a bit to allow the other end of the device to get into the end holder - so you'll need to allow for an extra 1/2" (13 mm) or so beyond the 8.66" (220 mm) length of the TRIPLTEK 8 Pro for installation.  Although the end holders are a little wider than the TRIPLTEK 8 Pro, the device is held securely in-place with no wiggling or sliding.  I use this cradle to hold my TRIPLTEK 8 Pro to my exercise treadmill for watching TV and movies while I work-out. 

Tip for Mounting to a Flat Surface (such as an instrument panel)
The RAM-HOL-TAB12U has a flat tab on the back on the back of the cradle that is 7.5 mm deep x 74 mm wide (0.3 x 2.91"). The tab is designed as something to grab when sliding the cradle open, but it is not critical for that use.  The device being installed into the cradle can be used to slide open the cradle.  The tab would need to be cut or filed off if you want mount the cradle to a flat surface.  With the tab removed, the cradle should work fine mounted directly to an instrument panel or other flat surface.  Or you could use an 8 mm thick flat plate to stand the unit off the flat surface and allow room for the 7.5 mm deep tab.  I recommend  removing the tab (only when surface mounting).  The tab is not an issue when any RAM part is mounted to the back of the cradle.

Comparison with RAM-HOL-UN8BU X-Grip
The RAM-HOL-TAB12U holds my TRIPLTEK 8 Pro slightly more securely than the RAM-HOL-UN8BU does.  Also, it is easy to install the TRIPLTEK 8 Pro into the RAM-HOL-TAB12U with one hand.  It takes 2 hands to install anything into the RAM-HOL-UN8BU.  However, the RAM-HOL-UN8BU uses a little less space and holds the TRIPLTEK 8 Pro plenty securely for use in a sailplane.  The RAM-HOL-TAB12U can be mounted directly to the instrument panel - it doesn't have a ball mounted directly to the back of it.  The RAM-HOL-UN8BU is only available with a ball on the back - so it can't be mounted directly to an instrument panel.  Both cradles work great on a RAM mounting ARM.
