Soaring Product Training Overview
Soaring Product Training is a series of 80+ existing videos, and new videos coming this year, and for many years to come.  They include:

  • Product overview videos related to sailplane instruments and software
  • In-depth training videos related to sailplane instruments and software

I have been selling, supporting and flying with soaring instruments and software since 1990.  I’m a very technical person and enjoy getting to know the details about the products with which I work.  You can benefit from my technical knowledge and experience.

The videos are designed to meet several needs:

  • Product Overviews - Help determine whether a product is right for you before buying.
  • In-depth training - Get the most out of your existing soaring instruments and software.
  • "Spring Refresher Course" – Remind you how to use your instruments and software after the long winter.
  • Soaring club members - Learn how to use the instruments and software installed in the club's aircraft.

Access Options
Soaring Product Training videos can be accessed in several ways:

  • Rent an individual video for 30 days for $3
  • Purchase an individual video for $10
  • Rent ALL the videos in the series (dozens) for 1 year for $60 (That is only $5/month.) Includes existing videos, and new videos released during the rental period.
  • Purchase ALL the videos in the series (dozens) for $395.  That includes all videos added in the future (5 to 10 added each year).
  • Purchase a Mutual Support Membership - Access to the entire Soaring Product Training series of videos is FREE for the duration of the membership. Mutual Support Memberships are available at several levels and include free one-on-one technical support, discounts on all orders, no handling fees for small orders, and free GPS flight recorder calibrations. How to Watch
You access the videos by going to the Vimeo web site or directly to: vimeo.com/ondemand/soaringproducttraining. Vimeo keeps track of the videos to which you currently have access. You can watch the videos in a web browser on any computer. You can also watch using the Vimeo App on iPones, iPads, Android devices, etc.

Rent vs. Buy
Rented videos are made available to you for a specified period of time.  Purchased videos can be accessed any time.  They do not expire or time-out.

I plan to support the soaring community for another 20 years, so the videos will be available at least that long.  Of course, it is impossible to know whether Vimeo will offer Videos on Demand for the next 20 years, but I will do my best to make sure that all purchased videos will be available in one way or another.

New Videos Included
When you rent or purchase the entire series, you have access to not only all currently existing videos, but also all new videos added to this series in the future.  I plan to create 5 to 10 videos every year and add them all to this series.

Why not Free?
You may wonder why the videos will not be available for free – as they have been in the past, and since some of them are product promotional videos.  The reason is that creating them is a lot of work.  Each video takes about 5 to 30 hours to setup, record, edit and publish.  They are only medium quality video productions, but they have value.  Unfortunately for me, not everyone who watches a video will buy the product in the video from my company.  Sometimes they acquired the instrument along with a new or used glider.  Sometimes they already bought the item from another company before they heard about the video.  Believe it or not, I often hear from customers who used my videos to select their new soaring instrument, but bought the instrument somewhere else.  Therefore, the assumption that the videos are paid for by instrument and software sales doesn’t quite work.  I can’t support my family making free videos.

Vimeo Video On Demand Business Model - Compared with YouTube
You may ask why I can’t make money from YouTube advertising or get paid by YouTube based on the number of views – like those who do online car reviews. Unfortunately, the soaring community is not large enough to support thousands of views of a soaring product video – so getting paid by YouTube based on the number of views will not work, and advertisers are not interested in supporting videos that have only dozens or hundreds of views.  The theoretical best soaring product review ever made wouldn’t make any money on YouTube.

  • Hopefully you will see value in the videos and buy or rent them.
  • I will work hard to provide content that you find interesting.
  • I am always open to ideas for new video reviews or training on a particular product.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about the Soaring Product Training video series.

9 Registration Key & Waypoint Wizard
*** This video is out of date. It is no longer necessary to enter a long registration key when first enabling SeeYou, or after purchasing a SeeYou-Upgrade license. SeeYou now prompts you to log into the "SeeYou Cloud". Your SeeYou license status is stored in the SeeYou Cloud. That is easier than trying to keep track of a registration key or serial number.
Also, the video shows the "Waypoint Wizard". I don't recommend using it to import waypoints for the USA because it doesn't necessarily have current U.S. airport data. I have made current U.S. airport files available here: http://cumulus-soaring.com/seeyou.htm#Downloads

File Management - Points.cup File - Favorite
*** This video is slightly out of date because changes to Windows file structure made it necessary to change the location in which SeeYou stores the "Points.cup" file that contains the active database of turnpoints and tasks. It is now stored in the C:\ProgramData\Naviter\SeeYou directory. It was previously stored in the ProgramFiles directory.

Importing Waypoints - Favorite
*** This video is slightly out of date. SeeYou has been updated to make it possible to open a new waypoint file either in a new window, or by replacing the waypoints and tasks currently in use in SeeYou. I have found that some features work best when you are working with the waypoints and tasks in SeeYou's active "points.cup" file. Therefore, before I open a new waypoint file, I do as the video suggests and first save the current waypoint file to my computer. Then I open the new waypoint file and select "Overwrite My Waypoints & Tasks". That puts the new data into the "active waypoints and task" data file that is saved when you quit SeeYou and re-opened automatically when you re-start SeeYou.
