Overview
With Mountain High's line of oxygen transfillers and adapters you can refill your cylinder without making expensive trips back to an airport or compressed gas facility. Buy or rent a large oxygen cylinder and do your own refills in a fraction of the time and cost. Our oxygen transfillers have micro-particle filters at the inlets and outlets to help keep dirt out of your oxygen system to meet or exceed SAE, CGA and DOT specs.

Transfilling Overview

Complete Transfilling System
A transfilling system is basically a large cylinder to be used to re-charge your airplane's cylinder.  A transfill system can be used to fill multiple tanks at your gliderport, or you can take a tank with you on a soaring vacation or to a contest.  The idea is to use a large cylinder to reduce the number of times you need to get oxygen from an oxygen supplier.  If your airplane's oxygen system has a standard oxygen cylinder with a CGA-540 port, a complete system would include:

If you want to build a large bank of cylinders you would simply add to the system above with multiple large tanks and TR-CIC-540 Cylinder Intercoupler Kits.

Cylinder Valve Port Types
There are 2 types of cylinder valve port types commonly used in aircraft.  It is important to know which one is on your cylinder when ordering a regulator for it.  The regulator attaches to this port.

  • CGA-540 - US standard, Approximate outer diameter of threads: 0.875" (22.2 mm)
  • DIN-477 - European standard, Approximate outer diameter of threads: 1" (25.4 mm)

CGA-540 Port Terminology
The terminology used to describe the "male" and "female" CGA-540 ports can be very confusing so it is difficult to get it right.  That can be expensive if you order the wrong adapter.  The best way to verify that you are ordering the right part is to look at the photos shown on this page.  Below is an attempt at describing each port type - with photos.

  • CGA-540 "N" port - The "N" stands for "nut" or "nipple".  This port has "female" internal threads inside the nut.  But it has a part that extends into the mating connector so it is sometimes called a "male" connector.  Please refer to this port type as a CGA-540 "N" port.

  • CGA-540 "S" port - The "S" stands for "socket".  This port has "male" external threads but it is sometimes called a "female" connector because the mating connector fits into it.  Please refer to this port type as a CGA-540 "S" port.

I try to stock as many parts as possible so I can ship to you immediately upon the receipt of your order.  However, MH offers an extremely broad range of products and kits so it is not possible for me to stock everything.  However, it is possible for MH to ship parts I don't have in stock directly to you very quickly.  That is good for you because you receive the products quickly.  It is good for me because it reduces the amount of inventory I need to stock and also eliminates the cost of shipping the products to me.  The items marked "In Stock" below are almost always in my stock here in Minnesota, USA.  The items marked "1 Day" (or similar) can be shipped directly from the vendor in Oregon, USA to you.

Flex-Fill
00BLT-1016-xx Flex-Fill Flex-Fill, 18, 24, 36, 48 or 60 inch (45.7, 61.0, 91.4, 121.9, or 152.4 cm) with MH-300 Pressure Gauge
Flex-Fill systems make it easy to fill a remotely mounted oxygen cylinder.  It is an extension line that plugs into the pressure gauge port on the regulator and brings a fill nipple and pressure gauge out to a more convenient location.  It is ideal for use in gliders where the cylinder is mounted in a difficult to reach location. Our integrated fill-stations feature the Swagelok system for the best seal between tubing and fitting. They also have SAE straight-thread with o-ring ports that allow for the most dependable seal.
The free end has an MS22066 male fitting with 3/8-24 thread.  The TA-380-N or TA-380-S transfill adapters work with this fitting.

Note:  All complete EDS system kits include a cylinder with gauged valve and a regulator that does not have a gauge.  The Flex-Fill normally threads into a pressure gauge port on a regulator that would include a pressure gauge. Since standard EDS systems include a regulator without a gauge (and gauge port) the regulator must be upgraded to include a version with a gauge port.  For example, an XCR regulator must be upgraded to an XCR-G (MH-00REG-1030-00-Upgrade, $35).  The upgraded regulator does not include a pressure gauge because the gauge is included with the Flex-Fill.  The price of the upgrade is the price difference between the 2 regulators, minus $25 for the gauge that is not needed.  This upgrade will be added when you order a Flex-Fill unit along with an EDS system.

If you already own a regulator with a gauge - please order the "NG" (no gauge) version. You can select that option at check-out.

Transfill Adapters for Built-In Oxygen Systems
TA Transfill Adapters
The industry standard for oxygen fittings is what is called "CGA-540" (Compressed Gas Association, Arlington VA fitting No.540). Aircraft do not usually use these heavy-weight fittings; instead, special lighter-weight fill fittings have been developed. We have transfiller fittings for these so that you can easily refill your built-in system from standard CGA-540 oxygen systems. The adapters shown are for the aircraft fillers.

There are two types of aircraft oxygen filler fittings found in most GA aircraft. The earliest and most common versions are known as the MS22066 & MS22035. They are a 3/8-24 threaded fitting with a small valve-core or poppet valve for a check-valve that opens during transfilling. The other is a larger 9/16-18 thread commonly known as the SCOTT, Airline or AS1219 fitting.

The TA-380-S & -N are for the MS22066 and MS22035 filler ports. The TA-916-S & -N are for the 9/16-18 SCOTT fittings. The -N is for "nipple" and the -S is for "socket" on the CGA-540 ends. This nomenclature is used because the terms "male" and "female" were being constantly confused with CGA fittings. Micro-particle filters are installed on the 540 ends and an O-ring is on the 540 nipple for an air-tight fit by hand.

Transfillers
Transfillers
Transfillers are used to transfer oxygen from one tank to another - normally from a very large storage tank or tanks into the smaller tank to be used in an airplane.

00GSE-1016-xx TR-95b-CGA-540 TR-95b CGA-540 to CGA-540 Oxygen Transfiller Device with O-Ring Fittings, Gauge and Bleed Valve - Popular
The TR-95b is an economical transfilling system for soaring and flying clubs where many cylinders are serviced frequently. Both connecting ends have O-ring seals for a positive air-tight fit. The pressure/contents gauge shows how much oxygen remains in the master (rental) cylinder. The TR-95b utilizes a master transfer (regulating) valve to control the flow of oxygen into the cylinder being filled. A separate bleed valve allows you to bleed only the fittings (rather than the entire service line) and change cylinder after cylinder with almost no loss of valuable oxygen.
