JJ-Wing-Tie-Down-Kit

JJ Wing Tie-Down Kit
The JJ Wing Tie Down Kit is a simple, yet effective solution for anchoring your wings to the ground. It is especially helpful if your glider does not have tie-down fittings. As you can see in the photo at right, the system uses a padded aluminum wing saddle and tie-down ratchet straps with 2 hooks. The wing saddle fits over the trailing edge of the wing and the straps run around the leading edge of the wing and down to the hooks for attachment to an anchor. The system is designed to be small and lightweight - so you can take it along with you on your cross-country soaring adventures.

Note: The saddle must be used on a wing surface with a fixed trailing edge - not on a moveable control surface.

This version is for use mainly with single-seat gliders. For large sailplanes and motorgliders - see the heavy-duty version below.

Anchors are not included.

Important:

  • Strong Recommendation: A wing stand under each wing is highly recommended in windy or gusty conditions in which the wind exceeds ~25 mph. Home Depot sells a solid, variable height stand for about $15, or ladder with pad on top makes a solid inexpensive wing stand.

Included:

  • 2 padded aluminum wing saddles
  • 2 tie-down ratchet straps with 2 hooks each, Width: 1 inch, Length: 15 feet, Breaking strength: 1500 Lb, Working Load Limit: 500 Lb.

Not Included:

  • Anchors or spikes or stakes for securing the system to the ground. For that you may want to consider the CLAW system.

Dimensions:

  • Width: 7.8 inches (20 cm)
  • Length: 7.5 inches (19 cm)
  • Weight of complete kit (including 2 wing saddles and straps and hooks): 2.6 pounds (1.18 Kg)

JJ-Wing-Runner

JJ Wing Runner
The JJ Wing Runner is clever, compact and lightweight wing wheel that can be used to assist with take-off when a human wing runner is not available. It would be very handy in the event of a off-airport landing and subsequent retrieve aerotow. It will keep your aileron from grinding on the pavement as you use full side-stick to lift the low wing (down aileron on the low wing). It lifts the down wing about 6 inches (15 cm) above the pavement - keeping the aileron up off the ground. The wheel and wheel mounting brackets fit neatly inside the wing saddle for storage inside your glider.

Included:

  • 1 padded aluminum wing saddle
  • 1 wheel with mounting brackets
  • 36" roll of duct tape - for securing the saddle to the wing
  • Printed assembly and use Instructions

Dimensions:

  • Width: 7.5 inches (19 cm)
  • Length: 7.5 inches (19 cm)
  • Wheel diameter: 5.1 inches (13 cm)
  • Weight of complete kit: 1.2 pounds (0.54 Kg)
